Home SDMM Press Releases 1-28-08 Minuteman Highway

January 28, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jeff Schwilk Founder, San Diego Minutemen 760-525-1655 SDMM Rebukes Illegal Alien Group’s False Claims on Our Adopted Highway
Contrary to a false press release from earlier today by Enrique Morones, Caltrans has NOT suspended the San Diego Minutemen’s 5-year permit for the adopt-a-highway program, nor do they have any plans to do so. It is unfortunate the Enrique Morones and other Latino groups continue to spread false and malicious rumors in the media.
SDMM also confirmed with Assemblywoman Lori Saldana’s office this afternoon that Caltrans has made no decisions to prohibit law-abiding American citizens and groups from adopting highways in California. Our highway will stand because there is absolutely NO problem with our multi-ethnic political group picking up litter.
SDMM has scheduled our next cleanup with Caltrans for this weekend. Our first clean up event on Jan. 17th was very successful with the removal of 15 bags of litter by our volunteer.
We have all been fully trained by Caltrans for safety and we do not anticipate any hazards or problems during our future highway litter removal details. The CHP office is located right in the middle of our adopted highway and can respond in seconds if any unforeseen circumstances arise.
Our Director of Highway Operations, Francisca Galvan, is busy planning this weekend’s event with our team of 12. SDMM is proud to join thousands of civic groups in California in the highway adoption program.
SDMM encourages all community service groups, even the Border Angels, to get involved and adopt a highway to keep our California highways beautiful.
