Dec 2008 21 - Driver's license checkpoints very effective
I was able to observe Oceanside Police Department's driver's license checkpoint on Dec. 10. I wanted to see for myself how these worked and whether any of the accusations from El Grupo and other illegal alien activists were remotely true.
I observed about 20 OPD officers and volunteers running a highly professional and organized checkpoint. They randomly pulled five vehicles at a time from the flow of traffic and simply asked the drivers to show their driver's licenses. Most drivers complied and were on their way in 30 seconds or less. But I was shocked at the number of people who could not produce their required licenses.
They were then sent to a secondary holding area where their names were run through handheld computers to see if they were licensed. Twenty-nine unlicensed drivers were cited and their cars impounded in just over three hours. OPD says there are two to three hit-and-run accidents each day in Oceanside and that most are committed by unlicensed drivers. These checkpoints are needed to remove these dangerous drivers from our roads. No, the Border Patrol was not present. I called them, but they were busy that afternoon in Vista rounding up criminal aliens along with Vista Sheriffs. Jeff Schwilk Founder, San DiegoMinutemen Vista 17 - Mexico needs to control its northern border
In my April 1, 2007 letter, I addressed Mexico's Felipe Calderon's move against illegal crossers at the southern border of Mexico and the planned extension of Mexico's seasonal farm-worker program, which annually issues at least 40,000 temporary visas, mostly to Guatemalans, to work on coffee plantations, construction and service industries. I believed then and continue to believe that all of those jobs could be taken by Mexican citizens who want to come to the United States looking for work.
An Oct. 20 brief in the North County Times ("Cuba says Mexico to return migrants") revealed that Mexico is finally returning Cuban immigrants to Cuba who, for years, have come to Mexico as an easy way to enter the United States. That, to me, is welcome news as previously Mexico issued transit permits to allow all Cuban migrants to come to the U.S. The brief further stated that over 90 percent of Cuban migrants in Mexico reached the U.S.
Now, if only the Mexican government could control their northern border and stop the continual and illegal flow of their citizens into the United States. That would really be welcome news.
Leon Smith Oceanside 17 - Checkpoints make roads safer
Recently, there were two successful driver's license checkpoints in Oceanside and Vista. What a glorious sight to behold! Not only did they each stop a drunk driver, Oceanside stopped an out-of-state parolee and both removed a myriad of illegal cars and drivers from our roadways.
I understand that there are to be more of these checkpoints in the future and for that I thank the Oceanside Police Department and Vista sheriff's office.
I understand there are those who will complain that these checkpoints target certain ethnicities. To those I say, hogwash; they only target law-breakers. Thanks for making the roadways safer.

26 - Sgt. Peralta still a hero
The Pentagon has reviewed the case of Sgt. Peralta's heroic act in Iraq in 2004 and again concluded that the Navy Cross is the appropriate award ("Pentagon reaffirms denial of highest medal to Marine," Nov. 20).
Many of us current and former Marines believe he probably deserved the Medal of Honor for pulling a live grenade to his body, likely saving the lives of several of his fellow Marines. Unfortunately, Pentagon medical experts concluded he likely could not have made such a conscious, deliberate action.
This contradicted eyewitness accounts, but Secretary Gates followed the regulations, which basically say if there is any doubt about the circumstances, the Medal of Honor cannot be awarded. It is unfortunate that the fog of war has clouded this case to some degree; however, the Navy Cross is an extremely high award for such bravery and takes nothing away from the heroics that we all know Peralta performed that day, regardless of the exact details.
Although Sgt. Peralta was not yet a U.S. citizen, he was a legal immigrant from Mexico and a proud U.S. Marine. Sgt. Peralta shows us again the value of legal immigration to America and why we must preserve it for future generations. Semper fi, Rafael.
Jeff Schwilk Retired, U.S. Marine Corps Vista 2- Driving is a privilege, not right
Re: "Activists call checkpoints unfair," Oct. 23: The tone of the article leads one to believe that illegal immigrants have rights to drive, and seems defensive of persons breaking the laws of California. The ACLU's position that an illegal immigrant has rights is bizarre. The Constitution grants rights by birth or legal immigration, beyond that people have privileges, not rights.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a driver's license is a privilege and not a right. Individuals who drive without a valid driver's license know they are wrong and subject to arrest. Individuals who have their license revoked for DUI and drive know they are in violation of the law. If just one accident or death is avoided by these checks, then inconvenience of citizens is a small price to pay.
Statements that "I needed to drive to work" are without merit and inexcusable as public transportation, car pools, friends, taxicabs still work with planning. I am offended that an illegal who is driving without a license would think ... that he has a right to drive. Such actions would never be condoned in their place of origin, and should be vigorously prosecuted here every day. ... I strongly recommend more frequent checks.
Donald Robb Oceanside 2 -Checkpoints don't create a divisive city
Re: Tuesday's "Escondido opposes Flores' sanctuary city," Letters, Oct. 28: My compliments to Sam Abed for confronting Bill Flores' radical agenda. And what's with this guy Flores, anyhow? A former deputy sheriff sworn to uphold the law, and now an advocate and apologist for those who break it? ...
Flores has made assertions that legitimate actions by the Escondido Police somehow denigrate and divide the city and unfairly militate against our Latino ... community. I would suggest that such assertions are absurd, since such actions have demonstrably made Escondido much safer, and consequently, a more desirable place in which to live and work.
Additionally, I would suggest that rather than lawful enforcement by our police department, much of whatever division exists in the city is a direct result of the presence of the large number of illegal aliens here.
So, some advice to Bill's constituents so that they may avoid problems with the police, and help make Escondido a better place: 1. If you're here illegally, go home, 2. If you are here legally and want to drive a car, get a driver's license and properly register and insure your car. Muy simple, verdad?
Charles Palmeter Escondido Oct 2008 26 - Mexican Consulate not welcome in North County!
On Saturday, Oct. 18, Mexican Consulate officials left their authorized building in San Diego and traveled 50 miles north to the Iglesia Ebenezer Church in Oceanside to issue another 350 Mexican ID cards to their citizens living in North County ("Police issue 43 citations during immigration protest," Oct. 21). These easily forged matricula cards, which are not accepted as ID in Mexico, are used only in America by Mexican illegals to open bank accounts at ... banks to eventually obtain loans, credit cards and sub-prime mortgages, the kind that are now failing in record numbers. How can this be allowed, you might ask? Would we let the Iranian government come into our cities and give ID cards to their illegal aliens?
Bush's State Department has given the corrupt Mexican government permission to hold these mobile events nationwide against the wishes of we the people who actually care about homeland security and the rule of law. So far, our local Congressmen Issa and Bilbray have done nothing to try to stop these monthly ... assistance events in our cities.
We call on Congress to stop this foreign subversion immediately! No more mobile Mexican Consulate events!
Jeff Schwilk Founder, San Diego Minutemen Vista 26 - Bill Flores - Law enforcer or radical alien activist?
After reading Bill Flores' Community Forum ("Sam Abed's remarks hurt Escondido," Oct. 10) about two of our City Council members, I think he is right about businesses and new people moving into Escondido.
However, the reason is not checkpoints or a racially divided town, but illegal immigrants who have invaded our community for years. I really don't understand how an ex-sheriff can just change his hat to be an advocate for these same illegals (El Grupo leader). I wonder if he was doing his job when he was an assistant sheriff? Eliminate all the illegals and see new people come here.
Vote for Sam Abed and Ed Gallo! No vote on Olga Diaz.
Reg George Escondido 19 - Bill Flores is so wrong
Re: "Sam Abed's remarks hurt Escondido," Community Forum, Oct. 10: Bill Flores, a spokesman for El Grupo, wrote a very one-sided article taking issue with Sam Abed's comments, in part, "Poor people and Latinos can't be outside the regulations." Bill should stop making excuses. ...
In the city of Escondido, we have a diverse population mix, which includes blacks, whites, Asians, Filipinos, Latinos and a host of others. ... Overcrowded apartments, overcrowded streets and police checkpoints are the direct result of a small group of people who will not comply with society's rules. Why should I drive down the street and worry whether I'm going to be rear-ended by someone with no license, no insurance and high on something, who decides not to wait for the police and just takes off?
It's a two-way street. As usual, Bill only sees one side of the picture. Try looking at and seeing the big picture and how it affects all of the city of Escondido. Sam and Ed have seen the big picture and have responded as members of the City Council. I'm sorry it doesn't go along with his agenda. It sure goes along with mine.
John Bulat Escondido 12 - Welcome to the Socialist State of America
Do you people really not see what is going on? Ask yourself why government got into the home loan business to start with. Then ask yourself ““ was it really to help people buy something they could not afford, or was it a trick to grab property? You see, you get a perfect storm going by importing people, thus causing a housing shortage.
Then there is the big building boom, but no one can afford an overpriced house, especially when they only earn subsistence wages. You loan them so-called "money" to buy a property that will eventually revert back to the bank, which goes bankrupt, so the government bails them out and, thus, owns the property. Simple! Not only do we have more poor people (the imported), but now the government owns the property, and since they have all the law enforcement on their side, they can do with it what they want. It is a government land grab.
First parks, then schools, hospitals, prisons, roads, businesses, fuel, etc., then taxing your wages before you can take the money and spend it, thus leaving you poor and dependent on government. Welcome to the Socialist State of America.
Fred Schuster Vista 12 - Candidates take stand against lawlessness
Do your city council candidates oppose sanctuary policies for illegal aliens? Do they believe in the rule of law and full cooperation between local police and ICE and Border Patrol when dealing with criminal aliens?
The membership of the San Diego Minutemen had those same questions entering this year's election season. So we devised a short questionnaire for all the mayoral and council candidates to help us make this year's endorsements. The survey, and all our countywide endorsements, can be viewed on our Web site, www.SanDiegoMinutemen.com>Elections 2008.
We are pleased to endorse quite a few candidates from North County who have pledged opposition to illegal immigration and vowed to fight it at the city level. Enforcement of laws and the safety of your residents begins with your local police or sheriffs. Cooperation with federal immigration enforcement is critical. Just compare the cities of San Diego and Escondido. San Diego is a sanctuary city with a "don't ask, don't tell" policy; Escondido has full cooperation with ICE and has become a much safer city because of it.
Where does your city stand on enforcement? Vote wisely this election. Jeff Schwilk Founder, San Diego Minutemen 6 - It's good to be an Independent
A growing number of voters are benefiting from having made their own "declaration of independence." They can now hold a mixture of political views without fear of criticism or stereotype. They won't be called "bleeding heart, tax-and-spend, liberal extremists" or "hate-mongering, religious zealot, right-wing hawks" just because their party affiliation is listed as either Democrat or Republican.
Instead of criticism, Independents are courted by both sides. They are often called "undeclared" or "swing voters," but no one rants about their flip-flopping or failure to embrace the American two-party system.
Independents don't have to endure angry political statements like, "These undeclared voters need to come forward and take a stand. You're either with us or against us. Americans don't sit on the fence." It's amazing how politically acceptable you are when others need your vote. One is tempted to accuse some otherwise angry, vitriolic Democrats and Republicans of being hypocrites.
Yes, being an Independent brings forth the image of getting pampered in the lodge at Yellowstone National Park while mud pits boil and geysers blow hot steam all around you.
Steven Traugh Vista Sep 2008 19 - McCain Will Still Grant Amnesty Despite all the recent excitement over McCain's energizing VP pick Gov. Sarah Palin, John McCain remains committed to granting amnesty to 13-20 million illegal aliens currently in America. Unfortunately, if elected, he will likely sign an executive order in 2009 to make it happen. Its a promise he has made to the Latino and illegal alien community repeatedly and he hasn't changed his stance, despite some recent rhetoric about securing the border first. Barrack Obama is abysmal on illegal immigration and has promised amnesty, drivers licenses, and other social services to millions of illegal aliens if he's elected. He has even publicly accused ICE of separating families when they arrest illegal aliens, which is a boldface lie perpetuated by illegal alien advocacy groups like La Raza (The Race). Arrested aliens always have the option of taking their families back to their home countries with them. According to ICE, very few choose to do so. Illegal aliens are the ones who abandon and separate their own families and then try to blame the U.S. Government! Only one candidate for President this year promises to secure our borders, end ILLEGAL immigration, and immediately pardon imprisoned Border Patrol agents Nacho Ramos and Jose Compean. Chuck Baldwin (www.Baldwin08.com) is the only candidate rated "Excellent" on immigration overall by www.BetterImmigration.com . Americans concerned with securing our nation and ending illegal immigration should support Baldwin's strong Constitutional message of security and American sovereignty, even if you choose not to vote for him on election day. He has the same strong message that Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo, Mitt Romney, and Ron Paul had in their campaigns and debates; common sense messages of rational enforcement to bring back legal and orderly immigration that helped build the free and strong America that we all know and love. We also need to demand from the two main candidates a promise to crack down on criminal aliens, deport the estimated 550,000 fugitive aliens hiding in our country, stronger enforcement of employers who knowingly hire illegal workers (a felony), and of course securing our border from the massive flow of drugs, criminals, gang members, and impoverished citizens from south of the border. We also need to end sanctuary cities like San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and dozens of others nationwide which have resulted in numerous murders and other violent crimes by criminal aliens who were given sanctuary from ICE and Border Patrol in violation of federal law. Our next President needs to cut off federal funding for all sanctuary cities before one more innocent American is killed by a shielded criminal alien. "Cheap lettuce" is never worth dying for. A true guest worker program can give us all the farm workers we would ever need without importing criminals. There's a lot at stake in this election. Some say the future of America as a country that respects LEGAL immigration and the rule of law is at stake. The local Congressional races are crucial too. Call all your candidates' campaigns and demand they respect our laws! Then choose carefully on Nov. 4th. The Government works for us, We the People. Never cede your power to out-of-touch, elitist politicians. Never let them forget the Constitution they swore an oath to and the American citizens they work for. Aug 20082 - Voting for the Mouse Party
In today’s letters section (July 19) David Cline observes that the mayor of San Diego favored the La Raza conference, as did both presidential candidates, who did their share of ring kissing, also. Our federal government helps fund La Raza with our tax dollars. Why is it that we can have La Raza, the Black Caucus and the NAACP, but Minutemen are anathema? If we do not elect an American nationalist soon, there will no longer be a republic. What is not given to Mexico will become nothing more than a wretched milk cow for the rotten, corrupt United Nations, and it will happen within, without a shot being fired.
In this coming presidential election, I’m going to vote the Mouse Party, Mickey (or if you are hung up on gender, Minnie). The Mouse Party may not be the perfect solution, but it is better than the Democrats or the Republicans, who will never reform. The electorate was supposed to control the politicians. Over the years, we seem to have gotten it backwards.

Carlsbad July 2008 June 2008 13 - Racism in the immigration debate
Ruben Navarrette is partly correct, but also incredibly wrong; there is racism in the immigration debate, but it is core-central to the pro-illegal immigration movement. Now I would be lying to say that it does not exist on the anti-illegal immigration side, but it is found on the fringes of it.
I have seen Jeff Schwilk from the San Diego Minutemen kick out people from his events who show up and proclaim their hatred for Hispanics. He does not allow his group to suffer intrusion from racists or bigots, and this goes the same for almost every other anti-illegal immigration group.
Now the other side is a different story. All you have to do is go to certain Web sites ... or get on certain e-mail lists and you will see anti-Semitic, anti-Caucasian and anti-African-American terms get thrown around like there's no tomorrow. ... The pro-illegal side not only [has its own] racists but also hypocrites.
Brian Berg Rancho Bernardo 3 - Response to Ruben Navarette's Racist Rant (SDUT)
Ruben Navarrette’s piece (May 28, 2008) entitled “Stirring up anti-Latino sentiment” implies that Lou Dobbs and Rush Limbaugh are causing hate crimes to rise against Latinos. No, Mr. Navarrette, when I see illegals marching in our city streets demanding their “rights”, I become “stirred up.” When I read an article about another injury accident being caused by a fleeing illegal, I become stirred up. When I learn that each immigrant family of four costs the U.S. taxpayers $36,000 a year, I really get stirred up. When I see communities being degraded due to huge influx of immigrants, I am stirred up. When I see emergency rooms with long waiting lines and hear the majority speaking something other than English, I become stirred up. When California schools are cutting programs for citizens but are forced to provide interpreters for it seems every language in the world, I get stirred up. No. Mr. Navarrette, it doesn’t take Lou Dobb or Rush Limbaugh to show me that our politicians have abandoned the average American in favor of big business wanting cheap labor. I see it all around me every day! And, Mr. Navarrette, call me a racist all you want but I don’t want anyone in this country illegally – no matter from which country they came. Linda Morgan Ramona, CA May 2008 Attempt to sneak in amnesty killed, again (May 27)
Americans in large numbers have again stopped the Senate from imposing amnesty. Sen. Dianne Feinstein and others in the Senate thought they could attach this latest amnesty to an Iraqi appropriations bill with no one noticing. Patriotic Sen. Jeff Sessions led the successful charge against these sickening sellouts who care more about special-interest groups and Latino groups than they do about the American people, who are made up of all ethnicities.
Americans of all persuasions in huge numbers bombarded Washington this past week to kill this dangerous amnesty proposal that Americans have made very clear we don't want. Numbers USA also played a big part in this latest victory against those who want to destroy our nation with tens of millions of illegals, mainly from Mexico.
Take a minute and go to www.numbersusa.com and examine the Web site of this nationally recognized organization dedicated to fighting government corruption and amnesty. It costs nothing to join, and they will even send notices to your e-mail address so you can send free faxes to politicians on these issues. Help your country by joining this truly American organization trying to protect Americans against this huge invasion of illegals.
Mark Van Aelstyn Poway How ridiculous can you get? (May 26)
In a recent letter to the North County Times (May 7), Raoul Contreras stated that, "Illegals commit far fewer murders and other violent crimes than native-born Americans, and far fewer than could be expected by the demographics of mostly young men." Does that absolve all the rest of the illegals from breaking the law? ... Nobody knows how many murders and other violent crimes are committed by illegals, but there would be that many less if they weren't here. And Tina Jillings is another defender of illegal aliens. In a recent letter to the North County Times (March 14), she stated, "It is not a felony to cross the border with or without documents." It may not be a felony to sneak across the border without documentation, but it is against the law. Those who do it are lawbreakers. Tina ends her letter, which is an attack on Jeff Schwilk, with, "I certainly hope the powers that be intervene to preserve law and order." Here is a woman who wants to "preserve law and order," but passionately defends lawbreakers, some of whom commit murders and other violent crimes. How ridiculous can you get? Martin Giavelli Escondido Amnesty attached to war funding bill
The illegal alien amnesty bill, which is being attached to the Iraq War Funding Bill, would allow 400,000 unskilled guest workers annually by 2011. This is an increase by 334,000 unskilled migrant workers. If this bill, in its present form, is passed, it will displace hundreds of thousands of American agricultural workers from their jobs. It must not pass. This is a treacherous, dishonest way for Congress to pass a bill, which would grant amnesty to illegal alien immigrants!
Terry Kennedy Escondido APRIL 2008 26 - Raoul Contreras strikes out on America
Mr. Raoul Contreras appears to be openly supporting illegal immigration in his latest Community Forum piece ("Bilbray strikes out on Constitution," April 21). Contreras wants to continue the phenomenon in America whereby pregnant illegal alien women, mostly from Mexico, cross the border to deliver their babies, who are then given automatic U.S. citizenship (380,000 per year). Obviously, illegal aliens are exploiting this loophole on a massive scale! The child then theoretically "anchors" the illegal alien mother in America, making the family eligible for welfare and other taxpayer-funded social services.
The original law was created in the 1800s to protect the children of slaves, but it states specifically that it does not cover the children of diplomats and other foreigners "not under the jurisdiction of the United States," which shows its intent.
Congressmen Bilbray, Issa and Hunter have all co-sponsored HR 1940, along with 100 other Congressmen, to end the insanity of birthright citizenship for illegal aliens. Birthright citizenship is a key part of the mass illegal immigration in America from poor countries like Mexico and that's why the illegal alien activists are fighting so hard to keep it. Vista 22 - God bless, not damn, America
Eric Parish (Letters, April 10) wants us to know how he emulated the Rev. J. Wright by also muttering "God damn America" at various times in his life, usually during Republican administrations. Gee, what a surprise. Warmongering Republican presidents make Parish "livid with curses." No matter that it was two Democratic presidents who gave us Vietnam and a Republican who got us out. No matter that Parish's apparent hero, President Jimmy Carter, served aboard some of the finest warmongering machines ever developed (U.S. submarines) and has a nuclear attack submarine named after him.
Though Parish is just a farm-league bat boy for the Socialist team, he still deserves to have the two-faced hypocrisy in his letters pointed out every now and then. I don't think Parish really means God damn all Americans; I think he means God damn those real Americans who won't think like him.
I say, God bless those Americans who don't think like Parish, and thank you to all who have served during warmongering administrations, including U.S. Naval Academy graduate Jimmy Carter.

Carlsbad Why can't the NCT call it like it is?
Huh! Victor Navarro is a "resident "of Mexico but rents a room in Escondido ("Suspect arrested in brutal 2002 rape," April 16). What does "resident" of Mexico really mean? Sounds to me like open-border speak for illegal alien. Why doesn't the North County Times call it like it really is? If this alleged perp is here legally, why not say he is?
My guess is he is here illegally, and if the authorities were doing their job, and he is an illegal alien, this guy would have been deported long ago. We have enough crime here in the U.S. without importing more crime from a Third World country like Mexico.

Valley Center 20 - What's good for Mexico is good for America
Re: A recent article in the paper wrote about the dangers Central American illegal aliens face while traveling through Mexico ("Mexican security and railway damage slow flow of illegal immigrants from Central America to U.S.," April 14). It is barbaric how the Mexican authorities [treat] these illegal aliens while they give maps to Mexicans so they can thwart U.S. laws. Imagine our Border Patrol doing these things. ...
So why aren't these same groups and all the other illegal alien activists (Tina Jillings, Enrique Morones, Bill Flores, Claudia Smith), who frequently harass and bad-mouth Americans who want their immigration laws enforced and borders secured, screaming at and protesting the Mexican government's human rights abuses and brutality? Why aren't they in Mexico ... instead of marching in our streets making demands and threats against the very generous and kind American people?
In L.A. recently, Jamiel Shaw (17) was allegedly murdered by illegal alien gang-banger Pedro Espinoza, who was protected by LA's sick sanctuary policy. This invasion of millions of illegals from Mexico is doing great damage to our communities and nation. See shocking facts about this invasion at www.alipac.us/.

Poway 19 - Fed up with 'Press 1 for English'?
I was forwarded an e-mail from my brother and wanted to share parts of it with readers because I have very strong feelings on this subject. U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-NC) is trying to do something about this. She has introduced a bill, SB2719, to repeal Executive Order 13166, which forces government offices and federal contractors to provide services in multiple languages.
The American people or their elected representatives never voted to transform the United States into a multicultural Tower of Babel. I am thoroughly disgusted when I overhear children with their parents in public places carrying on conversations in Spanish when our taxpaying dollars are paying for them to learn English in our overcrowded school system. Welcome to America. We speak English. Learn it or leave.
Please write your senators urging them to co-sponsor bill SB2719 to repeal Executive Order 13166. By the way, my brother is a member of the Minutemen and I am proud of him, as well as of every member of the Minutemen. Go Arizona, go!

Escondido 18 - Waldrons promote, protect Escondido
Cruisin' Grand is back, and so are memories of just how much Steve and Marie Waldron have done to promote and protect Escondido. Steve Waldron is the car enthusiast whose idea it was to bring together hot-rodders and commerce to downtown Escondido. Now in its ninth season, this family-friendly, fun and successful venue attracts enthusiasts from all over the Southwest, and has done much to promote Escondido's business district.
His wife, Marie, a long-term and esteemed member of Escondido's City Council, has done much to protect us legal, taxpaying residents of Escondido from the myriad abuses of the tens of thousands of contemptful, lawless illegal aliens living in and destabilizing our cities' schools and neighborhoods. For this, she has been maliciously vilified by pro-illegal alien Latino activists: Their Escondido business (Top End Tees at 146 Grand Ave.) has been vandalized with racist/hate posters! ...
The Waldrons are front and center in Escondido doing their best to make our community safer by promoting the rule of law and by attracting patrons to Cruisin' Grand. What exactly are the lawless illegal aliens and their promoters adding to our fair city?

Escondido Not defending him would be discrimination
It seems that most of the people who defend illegal aliens pride themselves on being factual, and they love to dispute the opinions of honest citizens who write letters opposing illegal aliens.
Well, let me give you a fact or two that would seem rather indisputable if you are an intelligent, fair-minded, law-abiding citizen. I have a very old dictionary and a fairly new one. They both say that a criminal is a person who commits a crime. I think that most rational people accept the fact that someone who knowingly and willingly enters the United States in an illegal manner has knowingly and willingly committed a crime. Therefore, they are criminals. That is why they are called illegals. Is this difficult to comprehend?
Now, I have lived in Escondido for over 50 years and have never run afoul of the law. This is a fact that can be checked out with the Escondido Police Department. So I wonder if Tina, Andy, Raoul, et al., would rush to my defense if I decided to break the law. If not, then why do they passionately defend other law-breakers? That's discrimination.

We have a right to secure our borders
Ivan Morales' recent attack on the Minutemen (Letters, April 14) was ridiculous. He states Bush called the Minutemen vigilantes. So what? Bush has an approval rating of 20 percent, which means 80 percent of Americans think he is incompetent.
We need to hold our government accountable for their financing of La Raza, which means "The Race," with our tax dollars that were supposed to go to transportation, i.e., roads, etc. Mr. Morales condemns the Minutemen, but he has done nothing to secure America's borders.
Americans are angry about NAFTA, and we want our jobs back. We want people to enter the country the correct/legal way. Mexico secures its southern border with troops and we have the right to do the same thing to our southern border. The Catholic Church should stay out of politics, as should all churches, or start paying taxes and lose their tax-exempt status. Americans are starting to donate money to organizations that fight for Americans, not churches that sell us out to the highest bidder. We have laws, and we want them obeyed. If Morales doesn't like it, he can leave. Thank you, Minutemen, we love you!

Fallbrook 4 - Today's Patriots Fight for our Sovereignty HBO cable TV is currently running an excellent six-part mini-series called "John Adams." It is about one of our greatest Founding Fathers and the selfless patriots he worked with to form our nation.
This amazing story shows how our nation was birthed by a bunch of ill-trained farmers and merchants who defeated the British forces ““ the global superpower of that time. Heavily outmanned, out-gunned and out-trained, these Minutemen patriots sacrificed all they had for the cause of freedom. They never once thought about their personal fortunes or welfare, which is the opposite of so many of our current politicians and presidential candidates.
Today's Minutemen want our sovereignty restored and cessation from the invasion of illegal aliens who swarm across our Mexican border, causing great social and financial hardship for our citizens and legal immigrants.
Americans of all stripes should be grateful to the current Minutemen (www.SanDiegoMinutemen.com) and other patriots, who not only stand up to the power brokers, but also alert us to the crime and trouble caused by these illegal invaders. It is a problem that can no longer be ignored.

2 - Arizona enforcing immigration laws
Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, whom many consider to be America’s sheriff because he actually enforces immigration laws that most politicians and law enforcement refuse to enforce, and who is a hero to many, has been conducting high-profile sweeps for illegal aliens in his state. One recent protest in Phoenix drew large numbers of protesters favoring illegal immigration and protesting the sheriff. They were countered by an equally large number of Minutemen and other American patriots supporting the comprehensive immigration enforcement efforts in Maricopa County.
Americans are fed up with the destructive presence of masses of illegal aliens coming from Mexico that is crushing our economy and causing hardships for many of the legal residents due to growing crimes and financial abuses caused by these unlawful immigrants. Why do Mexicans call Americans names for enforcing our immigration laws when they steal into our country, but say and do nothing about the Mexican government’s zero tolerance for illegals on their southern border where illegals are ... incarcerated and sent back to their countries of origin?

So Escondido Union High School District Trustees Board President Tina Pope thinks it's "enlightening and exciting ..." and "... people are starting to get it ..." that a greater percent of the voters appear to be in favor of a $98 million bond measure for school improvement and the construction of a new high school ("Survey says voters likely to support $98M bond," March 26).
What I think would be "enlightening and exciting" would be to see an accurate report revealing just how many billions of dollars (not millions) are spent in this country each year educating illegal immigrant children. Sorry, Ms. Pope, but most of us do "get it."

San Marcos 30 - Mexican Consulate Claims US belongs to Mexico On Thursday, March 13, 2008, a group of American patriots gathered in San Diego for a formal protest against the Mexifornication of California, and to let the residents of the city (and the nation) know that our Country is being invaded by forces that fully intend to take us over and thereby turn us into a Third World Country. ‘Boycott Mexico’ was promoted by Americans United to Halt Tourism in Mexico (AUHTM) in order to: a)Warn students about the dangers of Spring Break Travel to Mexico; b)Warn about a rise in attacks on our Border Patrol; and c)Protest Mexican government interference with our immigration laws, the issuance of matriculas consulares ID cards to illegals, and their involvement in the prosecution of our first Political Prisoners, Border Patrol agents Ramos & Compean. During the course of the demonstration, a Mexican Consulate official was caught on video exposing the real agenda of the Mexican government when he said, in English, “IT DOESN’T MATTER HOW GOOD A RACE ARE YOU”, and “This has been and will be Mexico again!” A chilling revelation that has now been broadcast and exposed nationwide. You can see it at http://www.youtube.com/SDMinutemen. Join the fight now if you are at all concerned. NEIL TURNER Carlsbad 22 - Palomar College Allows Mexican ID Card Event On Feb. 23, the Mexican Consulate in San Diego rented the cafeteria at Palomar College for 9 hours to give an estimated 600 Mexican illegal aliens matricular consular cards (Mexican picture ID). This event was not advertised in the local media, except for a small blurb in the Spanish newspaper Enlace on Feb. 8th. I, and several other concerned Americans, went to Palomar to observe this event. We saw the new Consul General, Maria Arnau, and other high-level Mexican Government officials from the Consulate. They were there to ensure that the illegal aliens were given the Mexican ID which they use to open bank accounts and keep remittances flowing back to Mexico ($25 Billion last year). This event was likely in retaliation for increased U.S. immigration enforcement and the deportation of the Palomar MEChA Club student president, last December. Many county residents who have heard about this travesty are outraged that a foreign government is allowed to use state owned property to to aid illegal aliens, which is a federal crime. Could you imagine if we let Iran do this with its' illegal aliens? Oh that’s right, Mexico is not a foreign country, its our 51st state. Angry yet? Call Rep. Issa and State Senator Wyland or visit www.SanDiegoMinutemen.com . Let's stop this madness from happening again. Jeff Schwilk Vista FEB 2008 In defense of the San Diego Minutemen 2-3-08 Sr. Enrique Morones, on Channel 8 News on Jan. 28, stated inappropriately that the San Diego Minutemen [practice discrimination]. He and the statement are far from the truth. The SDMM are a vigilant, peaceful, law-abiding, multiethnic group who defends American labor and immigration laws through First Amendment demonstrations and public services. No SDMM has ever been convicted of racism or violence. The SDMM emulate their historical Colonial American Minutemen by being the first to defend their country from foreign invaders, while giving needed time to Congress and the military to mobilize for the defense.
We see the invaders today from outside, as illegal immigrants and terrorists, and from enemies within, who are the legislative, executive and judicial traitors to the Constitution, and all those who sell out our country and hard-fought values for more money and power and the desires of other nations.

Attack not an isolated incident 2-2-08
Recently the North County Times allowed Cindy Garcia to comment about an attack on a Minuteman at the Vista Vons day laborer site http://sandiegominutemen.com/site/%E2%80%9C%3Ca”>(Letters, Jan. 23). While videotaping at that event, I was assaulted by a Latina counterprotester who reached up and gouged my face and scalp with her fingernails. Ms. Garcia calls it a brutal attack. While unprovoked and unexpected, and certainly filled with hate by an angry illegal alien supporter, it was not overly brutal.
I personally have been on the receiving end of several unprovoked assaults ... (see www.youtube.com/mpspencer).
Sadly we have become accustomed to attacks by angry Latinos at our pro-America rallies. This documented assault by a Hispanic on a Minuteman, which did draw blood, was not reported by the NCT. Had a Minuteman assaulted a Latino, just imagine the press coverage and subsequent frenzy of editorial comment. The Vista sheriffs, who were onsite and witnessed the event, immediately handcuffed and transported the assailant to the Vista jail for booking. She has been charged with misdemeanor battery. See video at www.youtube.com/sdminutemen and check out http://www.sdminutemen.com/ for 24 other documented attacks on American ralliers.

Protesters deny group right to beautify highway 2-2-08 The controversial San Diego Minutemen highway sign on Interstate 5 was installed by California taxpayers and is public property. Yet, it seems that opponents to the signage, who represent non-taxpayers and illegal aliens and their supporters who scoff at American law and tax responsibility, drain our social services system and deny the right to beautify our highway.
The sign represents SDMM who are exercising positive civic responsibility by helping to maintain the highway where it is located. Their opponents and organizations would be welcomed to compete, in the American tradition, with the SDMM, with their own signage, for the best maintenance of the highway for public good.
Those who are known to have threatened vandalism of the sign are reminded that it is public property, bought by taxpayers, the tearing down of which would be subject to not only local vandalism, but also terrorist prosecutions for threatening the public highway safety unless the sign was removed.

Raoul Lowery Contreras Racist Rant..... sdraoul wrote on Jan 27, 2008 10:02 PM:Oh, Schwilk, get off it. I'm not a "socialist" and I have no organizational connection to Mr. Flores or Mr. Morones, nor to the Mexican government. I also have no connection with the SPLC, the NAACP or any other group other than a casual off and on membership in the North County Republican Club and the Marine Corps League.
That said, your group is not multi-ethnic even if it might have a Black or Hispanic. Your group is almsot entirely non-black and non-Hispanic. Your group is small. Your group paid CalTrans some money to get your name on a highway sign. When you did you found out that the group was not responsible for cleaning up a stretch of highway. When some of you went out there and notified the press you did it for publicity. You are good at generating publicity but don't accomplish much. While you were "cleaning" up some trash hundreds of illegals made their way across the border. While you were writing your letter hundreds of illegals made their way across the border. Instead of demonstrating at Catholic Churches or on the street, why aren't you supporting various proposals to solve the problem that include work permits, guest workers to fill the vacuum of not enough Americans to do the work? Why don't you do something that is positive? Your web site needs cleansing. Your language needs cleansing. And, more importantly, you need a reality check. Those illegals who could be legal with a work permit feed you and your group. Perhaps you would have more success if you bought a piece of land and planted it with vegetables and fruit and raised cattle on it so you could feed yourself rather than depend on Mexican illegals. Wouldn't you be happier? (Nahhh, he's not a racist Mexican activist......LOL) Anti-Defamation League's Defamation If you have been paying attention to the news lately you would know that the San Diego Minutemen have adopted a highway on the stretch of the 5 that contains the San Onofre Border Patrol checkpoint. You would also know that the Anti-Defamation League is throwing a fit over this; associate director of the San Diego branch, Tina Malka, in a Jan. 12 story in the Los Angeles Times, stated that "it is unfortunate that the Minutemen, whose approach includes advocating violence, have been allowed by Caltrans into the program." The point is that the Anti-Defamation League just defamed the San Diego Minutemen because the irrefutable truth is that not one San Diego Minuteman (or woman) has ever assaulted a day laborer or counter-protester, whereas the San Diego Minutemen have been the targets of ... attacks. The list is available at www.sandiegominutemen.com. Or you can view several unprovoked attacks at www.youtube.com/sdminutemen.
Now you can either take ADL's word without evidence that SDMM advocates violence or you can view the facts and judge for yourself. If you think that voluntarily picking up litter is the same as lynching someone, then don't bother to look into the truth.

Thank You Minutemen and Women Throughout history there have been the few that selflessly put it on the line for the benefit of the many. They are called Patriots. That is precisely, in my view, what the Minutemen and women are doing. They are doing the hard work that many of us won't do out of fear, ignorance, lack of conviction, or plain laziness. And yet many of us are silently appreciative for what they do. I take this opportunity to thank them publicly for their civic mindedness and selfless service to their communities and this country.
In this light and locally, I find it perplexing why there has been yet another assault on the San Diego Minutemen -- this time for adopting a highway for clean-up. Opponents favoring open borders claim that it is a misuse of government funds to give the SDMM free publicity by posting a sign on Interstate 5 near the San Onofre Boarder Check Point. Yet, these same opponents don't see a problem with supporting immigrants that come here in violation of our immigration laws nor the fact that we taxpayers subsidize greedy employers for the hidden cost born by social/medical welfare programs that make up the gap in true cost from cheap labor. This begs questioning the true motives for such opposition.
In my opinion, these patriots are cleaning up yet another mess that they didn't make. They are doing it on our behalf. They are part of the solution; not part of the problem. I say "Stand up" and find a way to thank and support our local Minutemen and women. In part, our future depends on it.
Frank Stashak Oceanside News distorts the facts on immigration Does it upset you to see people who openly play the system and are allowed to successfully violate our laws? Several columnists at this paper have taken their turns at attacking and smearing the Minutemen. Columnists Richard Riehl recently wrote a very negative article on the Minutemen where he bashes and scapegoats them just because they are trying to expose the costs and lawlessness of massive illegal immigration ("New year, new scapegoats," Opinion, Jan. 17).
Why are the Minutemen, which is basically a large, multiethnic civil rights and Neighborhood Watch group, so maliciously vilified by this paper and others? There is not one single documented case of a Minuteman or American activist assaulting or attacking Latinos in San Diego, but there are documented cases of Hispanic violence against anti-illegal immigration activists locally, detailed in a new report on www.SanDiegoMinutemen.com. Those are in addition to the many thousands of documented cases of illegal aliens (mostly Mexican nationals) preying on innocent Americans (see www.immigrationshumancost.org for facts). And yet this paper continues to slant the news toward the illegal alien activists.
Thank God for the Internet.

Political dream team -- Paul and Dobbs Presidential candidate Dr. Ron Paul again pummels the media darlings in the Nevada primaries, besting Dangerous John (flip-flopping) McAmnesty-McCain, Huckabee, Thompson and Giuliani, yet Paul continues to be shunned by the media (elite-owned), which leads many to believe the power elite are terrified of Ron Paul's platform and populist attraction.
If adhering to the Constitution, limited taxation, curtailing our insane and mega-costly empire building, ending the obscene and profiteering-based Iraqi civil war, and if supporting the Second Amendment and home- schooling make common sense to you, then check him out at www.ronpaul2008.com.
While the charlatan front-runners blather about change, Dr. Paul's record typifies originality and exemplifies real change. He understands the catastrophic consequences of the lawless illegal alien invasion from Mexico and the paramount necessity of securing our borders, enforcing our laws (gee, how novel!) and ending chain migration and anchor babies by abolishing the 14th Amendment and its correlative and sovereignty-destroying North American Union scheme.
My political dream team would be Ron Paul and Lou Dobbs. Also, the immensely popular Paul continues to attract record-breaking donations.
Gary Walker Escondido Stop the Hate in 2008For over two and a half years now, millions of Americans have been screaming for our government to secure our borders and end the illegal immigration anarchy in our cities. And for two and a half years, many of the local pro-Mexico, open borders activists have been viciously attacking and slandering Americans who speak out against ILLEGAL immigration. These well funded “Latino activists” have proven their main goal is keeping our borders open and keeping the 13-20 million illegal aliens here in America. Many of these groups have close ties to the Mexican Government and the socialist movement. Enrique Morones has proclaimed publicly that his loyalty is to the Mexican President. He even became a Mexican citizen in 1998. The constant barrage of anti-American rhetoric and false attacks by the illegal alien activists needs to end now! The recent adoption of a stretch of freeway by the San Diego Minutemen has prompted an all out attack by the usual agents of Mexico including Bill Flores and Morones, but this time they also co-opted the ADL, SPLC, and even the NAACP trying to again smear proud Americans of all ethnicities with name calling and racial slurs.
