January 10, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mike Spencer Founder, Vista Citizens Brigade 760-586-6600 Vista Citizens to Hold Large Protest at Vista Day Labor Site Saturday
Concerned local residents in conjunction with the Vista Citizens Brigade will hold a large rally and protest at the large city sanctioned day labor site on Escondido Ave in front of the Goodwill store just north of S. Sante Fe Ave. in the Vons shopping center.
The demonstration will take place from 8am-11am, Saturday Jan. 12. Vista Sheriffs have been alerted and will have deputies on scene to prevent attacks on Americans by day laborers, illegal aliens and their supporters as occurred two weeks ago. Elizabeth Camarillo of Fallbrook was arrested on Dec. 29, booked at the Vista jail, cited for misdemeanor battery, and released pending hearing.
This is the third such attack on peaceful American demonstrators in 18 months by Hispanic activists. The city of Vista refuses to address the violence and other crimes there and will no longer even enforce their own costly ordinance to regulate the hiring of the 50-70 day laborers who loiter throughout the large parking lot daily, most of whom are illegally in this country.
At our three hour observation operation on Dec. 29, we witnessed at least 6 illegal hirings by employers who did not have registration certificates issued by the city in accordance with Vista law. These employers brazenly violated the city ordinance right in front of our cameras.
The citizens of Vista demand that Mayor Vance and the city council immediately enforce all city ordinances and local laws to protect the citizens of Vista and the patrons who would like to use some of the 31 businesses in that shopping center without worrying about their safety from lawless and sometimes violent day laborers.
