FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 8, 2008
Jeff Schwilk Founder, San Diego Minutemen 760-525-1655
MAJOR HEARING FOR SAN DIEGO MINUTEMEN – CALTRANS ADOPTED HIGHWAY LAWSUIT A hearing will be held at Federal Court with Judge Hayes in Dept. 4 in San Diego on Friday, May 9 at 1:30 pm. Kaloogian & Fuselier, L.L.P. (760-519-2393), the attorneys for the San Diego Minutemen are seeking an injunction to Caltrans’ decision to revoke SDMM’s highway on Jan. 28th.
Caltrans initially claimed that the name of the San Diego Minutemen on a highway sign created an unsafe condition on a two mile stretch of I-5 near the San Clemente Border Patrol Checkpoint. However, evidence has surfaced that Caltrans decided to remove the sign and revoke SDMM’s permit due to the political pressure and demands of three members of the “Latino Caucus” in the California State Legislature, including Assemblywoman Lori Saldana in San Diego.
That is an unconstitutional violation of the free speech rights of the San Diego Minutemen. That type of government discrimination can not be allowed and must be reversed by the courts to preserve 1st Amendment rights regardless of who agrees or disagrees with the message being spoken. Hecklers cannot veto political speakers. |
